Endodontics (root canal treatments)
Definition:
Endodontia represents the dental specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental pulp disease, dental roots and periapical granuloma (treatment of pus around the root).
The innovative practices in today’s endodontics field manage to save a tooth that would have otherwise been extracted.
PéterDent-Art advantage:
- root canal sterilization (the traditional therapy implies only disinfectants, possibly resulting in residual bacteria and a high recurrence risk)
- low number of appointments (one appointment in most cases)
- very low recurrence risk
- no pain
- fast periapical tissue repair (the osseous healing around the root)
Because of the ultramodern equipment, the laser available at PeterDent-Art, the treatment of periapical granuloma (pus around the root) is achieved without a surgical procedure.
Explanation: in conventional methods, the treatment of dental periapical granuloma requires resection (surgical procedure).
Advantages of laser treatment in comparison with resection:
- no incision (the treatment does not require a gingival or osseous intervention)
- no pain or bleeding
- one appointment only
- fast periapical tissue healing
- low recurrence risk. The laser permits treatment of periapical granuloma on multi-root teeth that can not be subdued to resection.
Case study – Endodontics:
-
Case I – treatment of root cyst (pus around the root)
The patient came to our clinic with a tooth that had an improper treatment on its root. This lead to the formation of a cyst that could be noticed around the root of the tooth on the x-ray (it looks like a black hat).
Following the laser treatment, the disappearance of the cyst and the osseous healing around the root can be noticed, without any recurring.
Without the laser treatment, the patient would have needed a complex surgical intervention to have the cyst removed.
-
Case II – negative effects of using inappropriate materials
The patient came with a filling that was inappropriately executed that endangered the vitality of the tooth and caused the inflammation of the pulp manifested through intense pain. The root canal could be noticed as a line crossing the root all the way to the tip.
The laser treatment suppresses the pain and the infection disappears after just ONE visit.
WITHOUT the laser treatment, the patient would have had to have a number of treatment sessions, with no guaranty of success and with a high risk of a cyst growth (as in case #1).
-
Case III – correction of an improper root treatment
The patient came to PeterDent-Art clinic with a molar that had been treated improperly (length of treatment - two months), appearing as two white lines on the x-ray, one of them not reaching all the way to the tip of the root.
Generally, the root treatment on a molar is difficult because of the many curvy canals, a proper treatment only being possible with very precise technique and the medical staff’s skills.
At our clinic, the patient benefits from the retreatment of the molar in only one session, the result showing on the x-ray, the root canal following the laser sterilization reaching all the way to the tip of the curvy root.
