DENTAL GRANULOMA

What is dental granuloma ?

Dental granuloma, traditionally called “bag of pus at the root”, is a nidus in the buccal cavity, which, if untreated can generate serious medical conditions of the neighbouring teeth or other organs in the human body.

How does it appear?

It is a medical condition frequently encountered due to complicated untreated caries or incorrectly applied medical treatments. Firstly pus is produced at the top of the root, which will be encapsulated in a so called osteosclerotic membrane due to the local immunity of the body. This is a normal defensive reaction of the bone against pus. The most problematic situation appears when the granuloma evolves towards becoming a dental cyst and continues in growth without any symptoms.   It is frequently discovered too late, when the noninvasive treatments do not have any result. Its deceleration is easy, it is done by an examination approved by the dentist and radiologist, where the black spot appears around the root, the spot which is surrounded by a fine white line, this being the contour line of the membrane.

Treatment

Any dental granuloma has to be treated immediately when discovered so that it does not cause any complications. According to the size of the cyst the dentist will decide what kind of treatment is to be followed. The most frequent one is the periapical resection, the maneuver being rather invasive (the gum is cut, the bone is pierced and after removing the pus it is sown back) which means not only a surgical risk to the patient, but also a greater possibility for relapse

Solution with laser

That is why the Peterdent-art team endeavours to solve these problems and offers laser treatment for periapical cysts, having been performed in our clinic for 5 years already, with a success rate of  98 %. The entire Peterdent-art team will look after you with the greatest care and we always endeavour to treat our patients without pain and according to the highest esthetic standards.
